Hand in hand we run away…Far away

Earlier today, I was sitting on the back porch eating some yogurt and listening to Green Day’s first album 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours.  Kristie sat across from me sipping her coffee and kindly pretending to enjoy the soothing sounds of teenage angst.  Most of our mornings begin in a similar way.  Enjoy the morning sun, inspect the vegetables, slurp the caffeine, pet the doggo, relax with our hippy breakfast, and vibe out to Jon’s Favorite Album of the Moment.

Conversation usually revolves around our jobs.  We are both employed by a well known brewery in Delaware.  If anyone from the Mothership is reading this, it is a fantastic place to work. Our career is a lot of fun and it gives us plenty of opportunity to enjoy the finer things in life.  Please don’t fire us.

Today, she threw me a curveball.

If I could do anything, what would it be?

I have thought about that a lot over the past 3 decades but, for some reason, today was the first time that an answer just popped into my head.  I would love to write about travel, good food, craft beer, culture, and everything in between.   Every other asshole with a computer does it, so why cant I?  Why the hell haven’t I attempted this before?  What’s the harm in trying? So… Here we go.

There is a great quote in Anthony Bourdaine’s book Kitchen Confidential.  “An ounce of sauce covers a multitude of sins.”  I like that.  As a sinner myself, I can relate.  My biggest original sin to this point is a lack of confidence.  I have never believed in myself.  Can this stupid blog be a little bit of creative sauce to cover up my multitude of sins?  I sure hope so.

To Kristie…

As Billie Joe Armstrong once sang “Would it last forever?  You and I together, hand in hand, we run away…Far away.” I am so excited to eat, drink, travel, and grow with you.  I love you, darling.  Let’s do this 🙂

Cheers.  Be good.
